Visual History of the
Clark-Peterson Building
Viroqua, Wisconsin
The South Building (where Slippers and the market suites now sit) was built in 1912 by Charlie Clark to be his auto garage. It was one of the first car dealerships in the State of Wisconsin. The larger, north building was built in 1919. In the Mid-60s Bob Peterson bought the building, running his successful business there until he moved to the north end of town around 2000. The building was sold to the current owners in 2002.
Planning and negotiation with tenants continued until Fall of 2003, when the actual historic rehab work began. We opened the front doors (which arrived 36 hours before the opening and were hurriedly installed by Cox Builders with only moments to spare!) on April 17th, 2004 to amazed crowds.
The building is listed in the National Register of Historic Places
(currently as part of the Viroqua Downtown Historic District, and soon individually as well).
Our hope is that this interesting history continues for at least another 92 years...

We selected a door configuration to be
reminiscent of old tri-fold auto doors,
while still functional for people.
